Carp Fishing at Lake Hefner

Avg. Rating: 5 # Reviews: 2 Views: 679 | Lake Hefner, Oklahoma 6/30/2009
Never fished for carp before, didn't realize how big they were until a signed up at the carphunter group. Sooooo.... mixed up a batch of bait from bedlem's posts and went fishing. Landed a 10lb carp first time out....since I didn't know anything about them, just had my bass rod and 15lb test with a small mitchell reel. Wow...that was a fight. | Map It

Nice Little Lake
Avg. Rating: 4 # Reviews: 2 Views: 451 | Lake McMurty, Stillwater, OK 6/28/2009
This is a nice lake owned by the city of Stillwater. It is located north and west of Carl Blackwell, camping is only $9 and RV's are $19. Daily is $6. Fishing is pretty good, we will be returning and fishing it more to figure out the lake and the fish runs. From what I understand the Saugeye are great at night in the coves. | Map It

Coon Creek Lake

Avg. Rating: 4 # Reviews: 2 Views: 483 | Wilburton, OK 6/22/2009
Nice smaller lake set opposite lake Carlton in Wilburton, OK. Only open from 8am to dark because it is a runoff control. Legend has it was the 2nd best bass lake in OK at one time. Watch out for snakes! 5 varieties of venemous snakes at this lake. Overgrown everywhere, safest place looks like on a boat!. | Map It

Arcadia Lake
Avg. Rating: 4 # Reviews: 2 Views: 455 | Edmond, OK 6/19/2009
Arcadia is a local lake in Edmond. Cost $6 to get in, but if you fish it right it is well worth it. I reccomend just pay the $15 and stay the night. Bass in early morning in the coves around brush, cats are good all day, crappie are good too. Striped and white bass in the evening are fun. | Map It

Robber's Cave Tour

Avg. Rating: 5 # Reviews: 2 Views: 793 | Wilburton Area 6/12/2009 - 6/14/2009
Went to Robber's cave last weekend. Took in Carlton Lake, Wesley Wallace and a couple of strip pits and ponds. The lakes were pretty good, the best cats seemed to be in Wallace. The strip pits and ponds in the eastern area are excellent. Caught a lot of bass, a few cats, plenty of bluegill. BTW, the folks at Robber's Cave Park are very nice and helpful, the park is clean and well done. | Map It

First Carp My first carp taken at Hefner. 10lbs. Had to take the pic with my phone (forgot the camera) 07/01/09 02:56 PM |

Coon Creek Lake Only fished a couple hours, but this one put up a great fight, there are also plenty of panfish in the lake. Going back to fish that one some more. A good little boat would be best I think, cuase of the amount of brush near the shore. 06/24/09 03:56 PM |

Medicine Park This is a beautiful area to fish for trout and cats. Nice little town. Get your fishing permit at the ice cream parlor. If you get there too late, find a local police and ask. 06/20/09 04:27 PM |

Carlton Lake "Marsh Area" This is the area between the amphitheater and gazebo on Carlton Lake, good bass in the AM, decent cats and bluegill all day long. 06/20/09 04:23 PM |

Lake Carlton Dam at lake carlton at robber's cave. Beautiful area with good channel and blue cat action near the dam. 06/20/09 04:18 PM |

Hey, and sure I don't mind that at all. I am currently working on doing some other tutorials as well, possibly a video one on youtube as part of the Blackstone Carp blog my friends and I have started keeping, I'll let you know when..I've been fishing a lot so other projects were put on hold for a bit while I take advantage of the good weather for once heh.

Carp fishing is alot more difficult than it would seem. Smart little beasties. Feel like a novice angler again - missing more strikes than I am setting. Nice challenge.

Carp are a blast. Check out carphunters group.

re: liver bait, gave some samples out to an employee at a state park, she told me this week that she caught 16 catfish on it, never went without a strike, and it stayed on the hook on a hard cast. Still workin on it.
06/20/09 02:20 PM
Been working on a new liver bait that stays on the hook better. So far so good. White bass are crazy for it as well as cats. Tightline with a double drop and 2 oz weight.
Been working on my bass fishing, getting better at it....
OK, white bass & stripers in OK are a decent substitute for at least steehead in my home state - not taste wise, but for the fight!
